Rasayana
Rasayana (रसायन) is one of the eight major branches of Ayurveda and is often translated as "the science of rejuvenation." But that translation doesn't quite do it justice.
The Sanskrit word breaks down into:
Rasa = essence, nourishment, plasma (the first tissue or dhatu), and also the "juice" or vitality of life.
Ayana = path, movement, or journey.
So Rasayana literally means "the path of nourishment" or "that which carries and enhances the essence of life."
It's not simply about anti-aging. It's about preserving vitality so that every tissue in the body is deeply nourished.
According to Ayurveda, when rasa is healthy, it sequentially nourishes all seven tissues (dhatus):
Rasa (plasma and lymph)
Rakta (blood)
Mamsa (muscle)
Meda (fat)
Asthi (bone)
Majja (nervous tissue and marrow)
Shukra/Artava (reproductive tissue)
